Hmmm I'm torn between the two..

Totally different cars. I like the Type R because it's a really nice handler with good acceleration while being relatively inexpensive. I considered getting an Integra when shopping for my A4 just because of it's good price. What made me lean towards the A4 was that it had more room, was more refined, and the insurance costs MUCH less.
Mike

Ditto..i too looked at the integra but since the car i was going to get would be my ONLY car i needed something a little more "useful"...I take clients from work out to lunch every so often and I knew i can't (shouldn't) really just shove them into an Integra...and the A4 is more practical if you have to transport large things (boxes, people,etc..)...so you really have to look at the purposes your car will be used for to decide this...
Jason
98.5 1.8T pearlescent

I assume you're scoping the limited production, 195-bhp R-Type and not the mainstream GS-R. The R-Type will have cachet due to its limited production (you can have any color you want as long as it's white) and uncompromising emphasis on performance. What the A4 will give you is performance (if chipped and stiffened in the aftermarket), a quieter, more civilized ride, s a little more room and a much nicer interior.
Good luck.

This would be the deal breaker right there, for me at least.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
1. The Integra handles just as well as the 1.8T.
2. The Integra can be modified to REALLY smoke the 1.8T (I think it's already faster) - and will still be cheaper AFTER THE MODS.
3. The Integra will be cheaper to insure.
4. The Integra will be cheaper to maintain.
5. The Integra will be more reliable.
6. Blah blah blah.
Just wanted to give back to y'all the same arguments you throw at the ... nevermind. Make you think twice next time.
He he he.
Chris Gröos

I too looked at the Integra. Granted, it is beefed up, but it's still a very expensive Honda Civic. Ok, it handles well and it accellerates well, and it's cheaper than the A4. But, it's Japanese. I just don't feel that their chassis, and their overall fit and finish, can compete with the German cars of the same caliber as the A4. IMHO of course.

I don't miss the GS-R. Sure the 8000rpm scream is wonderful music, but in long trips you will get tired of the noise and you wish there's an extra top gear. I think the Type-R revs even higher, and has even less sound insulation. The Type-R is a hardcore racer (but why in the hell it's still a FWD vehicle is beyond me, perhaps oxymoron?) while the A4 is more civilized. BTW Type-R's OEM tires last about 10,000 miles and that's it. Tires are necessary expenses.
Wong from North
98 A4 1.8TqMS Tropic Green
I was either going to buy the Type-R or my A4. i almost bought a Type-R but what refrained me from doing so is the insurance. it is a rediculous price for an integra even if it is a type-R. the car is quick and it is a pocket rocket but if you ask me a chipped A4 is a better pocket rocket than the Type-R plus when you get in a tangle with the idiot that hit you 90% of the tiem your car will not loose it figure and you will still be alive!
if you do get a type-R do keep it and collect it. that car is one of a kind.

When I was in NY & Seattle I didn't want a/c, now I have a/c and I want those Recaros with forced ventilation. Forget performance, the heat saps any energy out of you and the turbo. You might as well be a comfortable vegetable. :-)
Todd W

I haven't driven the Type R, and it sounds like a fun car but how does it handle when powering through turns? I used to own a 89 MX6 GT turbo. It was pretty fast but what bothered me was the way I had to fight it when accelerating through turns. It took some of the fun away from hard driving and a lot of annoying understeer in the wet. This is where the quattro system would be a big advantage. Don't know if this will help your decision, but it made me a believer.
Mick
98 2.8qm

i guess it is personal, but as nice as the Integras are, I think they are damned ugly. look and the front end. yackk. i dont have an A4 (yet), but it's got great sheetmetal.
(still wish for a bmw face and audi butt, though)

No way...Just today I was barely able to wedge a boxed computer into my A4 (trunk too small, had to go for the back seat) but it would've just dropped into my old Integra, no hassles, especially since the Integra front passenger seat folds forward and the lid of the hatch comes off.
One of the reasons I prefer the A4 is for the trunk, but in terms of practicality, the Integra hatch has it nailed.
Don't get me wrong, I traded the Integra for an A4 and you couldn't PAY me to trade back but carrying capacity was _not_ one of the reasons for the switch.
