View Full Version : When upgrading to the B5 RS4 intercoolers on a B5 S4.....

Is it normal to see boost pressure to go down approx. 1 - 1.5 lbs. Or is it supposed to increase the boost pressure approx. 1- 1.5 lbs due to the better build quality of the RS4 intercoolers? (end caps used on the RS4 intercoolers)

What should one expect from this upgrade.....I know it wouldn't be a HP gain, but more of a efficiency gain....

Thanks!

Due to less pressure drop across the ICs, I saw more manifold pressure. The turbos weren't working any harder, since my MBC was set the same (was running MBC-only at the time), just less pressure loss so more usable pressure in the manifold.

You'll cool the air more and be less suceptible to heat soak so you'll see more HP (or you'll lose less HP, depending on how you look at it).

But the welded metal end tanks on the RS4 ICs will definitely not leak.

If you had the MBC set to say 18psi before and after the IC's and there was less pressure drop with the RS4's. That means that the turbos would have to create less boost to get 18psi at the manifold.....where as with the stock IC's they had to put out more boost to get 18 at the manifold because of the higher pressure drop through IC's?
