I can't believe how cheap (relatively speaking) the insurance is for A4 2.8! My 97 Mustang GT was $3,300 under my fathers name (would have been over $4000 in my name). The A4 under my name is $2,100!!! That's a nice savings! BTW, I'm 26 and live in NJ, known for our high auto insurance rates!

Insurance on my 99.5 2.8 is only $800 a year more than my old 94 Saturn SL1. I am only 23 and a male with a few blemishes on my record in AL

I am only paying $700 in Canada for the Audi. My previous car - Acura Integra was $350 more....
Go figure!

That's still pretty high (but $4000 is AWFUL). I pay $900/yr for my 98.5 1.8TQM and the same for my '99 Z3 2.3. I'm 37 in CO, insured by State Farm (full coverage, 250/500 deductibles and free glass replacement).

I have a 99 A4 1.8T and I'm paying ~1800 for insurance in jersey... and i'm 21 years old... although I guess i might be saving a bit since i'm under my parents insurance, but you'd think that yours should still be lower considering you are over 25.... BTW, i go with liberty mutual, in case you're interested in checking rates...

I'm in NJ and my rates went down significantly as well. Christie Whitman signed some kind of bill to keep rates at a minimum with insurance companies in NJ. I'm not exactly sure what it is. Also, she made a tier schedule where you are rated a good driver, mediocre driver and bad driver. The points you now get for speeding, etc. put you into one of these categories. I had a speeding ticket and accident on my record, and all was wiped out because of this, as I had been a good driver for six year's prior. I would be paying alot more than I am now.

I called State Farm and they want about $1350 for a new A4 2.8 for the year. Before these insurance laws went into affect, I would have been paying well over $2000, and I am not a guy, nor am I in the infamous high paying 20 year old group. Someone with those classifications would be paying close to $3000 before these laws. NJ is outrageous!

That sucks! I'm 26 also, live in N.Cal and ins. is $1100. $100 Cheaper than my 98 Civic EX! But I guess our gas prices make up for that difference (1.89)

Sheeze, $4000 for the mustang in your name. Even $2100 for the A4 is crazy $$$$. Possible mob control of the insurance in NJ ? ;-)

I'm 27 and will be paying $1160 in Oregon through Farmers when my A4 gets here. What's really wierd is that I am paying $1040 for my '91 Jetta GLI 16v. It baffles me on how I can pay only $120 more for a $28,000 car vs. a $5000 car, both being moderate performance 4 doors. The great insurance debate continues ...

What company is that with? I was with Allstate and it was $2200, but I recently switched to Liberty Mutual and it's now $1200. I live in Central NJ.

The injury claim ratio on the A4 quattro is very low for this size car. That is one reason why insurance rates are relatively low. My 95 Subaru SVX was about $100 more than my 99.5 A4 2.8 Quatro.

Keep in mind your insurance rate reflects:

(1) Probability and expense of replacing your car
(2) Probability and expense of damage you will do to other cars
(3) Probablity and expense of your medical bills if there is an accident
(4) Probability and expense of others medical bills if you hit them

While (1) and (2) would tend to drive up the cost of the A4, (3) will definitely drive
it down. There is also the issue of how the car profiles--high risk, low risk drivers, etc.

I have New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance. I'm 36, 99.5 A4QM Silver. $802 a year full coverage, plus there's a 15% dividend return or really a refund at the end of every year of the total policy which brings it down to about $683. Before anyone asks, you have to work for a company that belongs to their network and have no moving violations.

Have three cars insured by State Farm (as well as the house) and the monthly premium on all three cars is $40/each +/- $5/each. Call it $500/year for each car. All have $500 deductables on collision and either $250 or $500 on comprehensive. The cars are: 91 Audi CQ, 93 VW Corrado and a 98 Audi 1.8TQ. I am a 29 year old married male in WI with a couple of traffic citations.

Although I don't think your insurance is "cheap," I know you were pleased to get the lower rate than your former car.

I don't know if this applies to your area, but in my area A4 is in the four door sedan category and the insurance rate is lower than many cheaper "sporty" car.
A4s don't seem to have many injury and theft claims. Yay!
