View Full Version : Is there a good 'ol way (analog - without computers) of doing an alignment?

When I did my suspension, I couldn't pop the tie rod ball joint out on one side. I unscrewed the tie rod-end, but I was stupid and didn't count the number of rotations. My alignement was perfect before. Now, with the car back together, it's a little bit off.

So, I took the car to Sears auto yesterday to get the alignment done. Before your critisize my descision... they always have done a good job in the past. It's also right near where I work, so I can drop the car off before work.

When I go to pick the car up, they tell my it's too out of spec, and that their machines can't handle it. What's the problem? I only changed one aspect of it. Can I do a decent alignment myself? They told me to go to the dealer, which is really far away.

I think part of the problem was that I told them to adjust for -0.9 degrees of camber on all wheels... for slightly better cornering. I'm not sure that they liked that.

Ideas? The dealer is inconvenient and expensive.

But since there are two new FUNCTIONAL not broken springs then doing what i said above probally wont work, will only have them straight, but then you will have camber problems i think. Try another shop maybe??

I was even lower with my old springs (same ones, and saggy, and the front two were broke). They were able to align the car then. I don't see why they cannot do it now.
