List yourselves here. And what has PES done for you?

Mine has been blown. And PES did try to help...but after multiple shoddy software programs they just gave up.

nobody seems to notice/want to discuss the problems.

hot a plug and likely the source of his pinging. The timing logs he posted after switching to the recommended colder plug showed fairly normal timing pull back so ....

I thought "not another one." Good to hear it was just the plugs.

which owns a 2000 just like steve. So yes it was the correct chip for his car/model year. I am just saying that if there was an issue in erics car, then that issue might have been a part in the kit and not the chip. Now I wonder which injectors steve is using, the old RC440's or the newer 225tt injectors.

I am not sure of all the people so I am just compiling a list to see how many have been blown.

and Steven had the correct chip for his MY. I was on I believe my 7th or so chip when I sold my kit. They never finalized it correctly and I doubt that they ever will. Always pinged, problems with hot start, cold starts, stuttering etc...

Ryann comes to mind.

The problem is, how do you know the source of the problem? Is it detonation? Is it prior problems? Is it DBW only, or nonDBW?

IMHO, anyone who slaps on a big turbo kit HAS to pay a lot more attention to what is going on under the hood. Just because you can't hear detonation, doesn't mean it's not happening. Hook up a VAG-COM, and see what it's actually doing.

GIAC has a rep for being more aggressive than APR, which means you have to be even more careful.

Reese had 1 RC injector go bad. Charlies car ran bad from the start but from his posts the car runs fine now with the kit still. Shorki's engine never blew up.

Was something wrong with the injectors that I got if they were used? Whats do the tt225 injectors flow? Is there different programming for the different injectors? Would it be worth the effort to switch?

or ford injector and just use a adjustable fpr to lower the fuel pressure a little. The TT's were rated at 360-380cc at 3 bar vs the RC 440 and Bosch 450cc

Do you think because of my slight displacement increase (.5mm/cylinder) that I could move to them with out having to worry about changing the fuel pressure or will the ECU be able to compensate for that through the MAF readings and I'd still need to lower the fuel pressure?

use your head mike. I changed over to the Bosch injectors because mine was a 01'...the injectors he received had very few miles on it.

I lost a few piston rings via the PES kit myself. Had the typical PES pinging. 1 bent exhuast valve, and peppered pistons, and head...

What I was disappointed about the PES kit was the programming. Even with chip updates, my car always ran a bit on the lean side. I upgraded my fuel pump, replaced my fuel filter, and even got the PES RC440's AND the PES 370cc Bosch injectors checked up by RC engineering. They were all good. I also used an adjustable FPR to bump up the fuel pressure quite a bit. Granted the car was FAST... but obviously not for long.

I like to experiment, so its hard to blame specific entity. I was also running the PES kit at 20-21psi... Supposedly 18psi was recommended, but there's no way Im going to be happy putting around town at 18psi when the non-dbw's can run 25psi safely.. on the same PES hardware. Bottom line, the PES GIAC programming sucked the bottom of the sh*t pile. I tried to contact Giac for any chance of a custom program, but I guess I was not special enough. Wutever.

I will admit though, that the PES hardware is nice. I didnt have any complaints about it, and everything seemed to work and fit as expected (the turbo manifold bolts were a bit difficult).

Anyhow, I myself am also moving onto new hardware... GT30R... as well as the Autronic SMC.
(converting my dbw to cable) I look forward to ditching the MAF too =) I just hope all turns out well.

BTW, a friend has tested out the Apexi S-AFC2 and a PES T28 kit, and it worked perfectly on the Audi A4 1.8t (was tested on a AEB motor). He had it dyno tuned and was able to find more power, and get the car to run smoother... just thought i'd let u kno. Why doesnt anybody else try the
S-AFC2's? they may be a great tuning tool. Just because the car is German doesnt mean it can't use high quality, top of the line, Japanese tuning tools~

anyway, I'm tired and I'm mumbling. good luck u guys~ g'nite

I've heard very good things about RC, and very bad things about RC.

Some people are using the Bosch 440 "green top" injectors, which I think is a better injector (of course, I've never tried the RCs...)

IIRC Reese had trouble twice. Since this was back before anyone was admitting the kit was having issues I never managed to get the straight skinny on specifically what happened.

In addition, your damage looks in retrospect to be similar in nature to what other DBW PES owners are reporting. I know your car saw lots of abuse with running it on the custom race K03 software but I'd bet the majority of the damage came from detonation with the DBW PES kit.

Charlies car now has a lower CR and that likely helps prevent the detonation folks with OEM CR see.

Shorki's car doesn't appear to have suffered any long term damage. Perhaps he pulled the kit 'in time', perhaps he was extra careful or perhaps pulling the head may reveal the start of some issues.

I know most (if not all) the GIAC/PES faithful think I've been liberally sprinkled with APR pixey dust but it looks like my criticsm of the DBW PES kit was warrented. I continue to be amazed at DBW folks who snatch up used DBW kits thinking they are smarter than the folks who've had issues and are subsequently selling the kit.

It looks to me like the desire to run maximum timing might have bit a bunch of folks right square in the ass.

Just not sure if PES/GIAC did any dyno tuning with the green tops though which I also think is a much better injector then the RC.

Ill assume its at the stock fuel pressure rating but I cant recall what that is.

Audi2ptzero

The kit runs a 4 bar fpr which puts the injectors around 508cc.

What pressure is the stock fpr?

From you post it seems like stock = 3 bar, is that correct?

What pressure is the fpr in the PES kit(ndbw) rated for?

From your post it seems like I should have a 4 bar FPR, however I think that my stock fpr is in there right now. I have also seen posts sayin that the ndbw kit does on include a FPR.

Can Anyone shed some light on this
