Is it possible to use the 016(?) ring and pinion from the 4000quattro in an A4 trans (01E?). I am hoping to use an A4 trans/ AWW 1.8t setup in my 86 4K CSq, swapping the r&p would be the easiest route, followed by an adapter plate or bellhousing surgery for the 5 cyl trans. thx

You may be able to use a B3 ring and pinion.
