He's done a custom setup on his GTi and is considering tuning it himself (he's capable, he just needs the software tools). I guess there are some companies that sell software kits which allow you to do your own tuning. Does anyone know of one for this application? I haven't heard of anything for the Audi S4, but didn't know if this was different from a '00 VW GTi 1.8T? I think he's found one, but looking for what else is available. Thanks in advance for any info.

...I looked into it several years ago. This is the software that Wetterauer uses. I think GIAC might use it also. Anyway, it is expensive for doing one car.

The stuff used by Audi Sport is made by Siemens I beleive and is unobtanium to all but the best known Germans, which is why GIAC and APR is mostly cobbled together compared to MTM/Hohnester/Dahlback. There is a package using all Audi parts which produces 400ps on pump gas. Requires some internal upgrades. I can get this SW for you, I am US importer. For more than that the only game in town is Dahlback for over 400WHP since Joe Hoppen at MTM wont sell us any good SW. Dahlback has some really hairy race gas stuff up to 750 crank HP, but this is very serious stuff and is mad3e for racing. They do have a complete kit for pump gas for 440crank 330whp and some that are for race. If willing to pay the tuner for travel etc. then probably 350@ wheels on pump. This is expensive, but so is futzing around with stuff you dont have the secrets for. I should have my Dahlback setup installed in Feb. March 04. Short block is being built and head mods being done now. If your buddy has to do this himself then he can do Autronics/Motec TEC/electromotive and others. But unless he has built engines a LOT then he may not want to learn this way. I have BTDT and will only go with proven packages. If I were running a full effort race car, I would do Motec, w/traction control, this stuff is SWEET.

2 users locate in the US (one in CT) and both have told me their complete set ups have been less then 3k. At the time you were looking to buy EVC may have not had the check sums ready for the 1.8t and were trying to sell you somthign custom they had to make....but at the curret time you dont need a "key" of any kind.
