Hi all. I've test-driven the A4 (both the 1.8T and the 2.8), and found the car to be a great piece of work. One thing that I found to be a bit quirky with the car was the amount of clutch travel - seemed to engage quite 'high' for someone who's accustomed to domestic manuals. I suppose it'll take a bit getting used to. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks of the A4's clutch?
By the way, despite that, I've decided that I WANT this car! Will be buying/ordering a 2.8 5-speed soon!

I noticed the clutch to seem quite high, also. Now that I'm used to it, I don't even notice. When I drive my friend's 97 Honda Accord, though, I get a little screwed up.
I think its also worth mentioning that the Honda transmission feels very "clunky" compared to the smooth-shifting A4. 8-)

I know what you mean. I've had my A4 for two days (barely) and the high clutch is quite an adjustment to make. (I had a 98 Accord). Just drive around for a few hours. You'll get used to it.

It took me a while to get comfortable with the long travel and high takeup point, but no problem now. Personally I would like a shorter travel. But I must admit that the light clutch certainly makes life easy in stop and go traffic. Also, the long travel makes it quite easy to modulate.

The clutch on my old 318i was similar, but not quite as smooth as the A4. I think it's partially a German thing. I really like the transmission on my A4 better than anything else I've driven. It'll grow on you.
