Anyone have any info on if this is a possibility. This is from an old post from Neil M. about the 2 different ZF trannies used in A4/S4.
The following specs apply to both the quattro (5 HP 19 FLA) and FWD (5 HP 19 FL) tiptronics:
Transmission capacity:
T(max) Engine at 3500 rpm = 310 Nm
P(max) at 5500 rpm = 169 kW
(230 HP)
n(max) in 1st to 4th gear = 6540 rpm
n(max) in 5th gear = 5000 rpm
n(max) KD shift = 6000 rpm
T(max) Turbine = 540 Nm
Converter:
W 254 S with controlled converter clutch
T(p) = 90 -230 Nm at n(p) = 2000 rpm
Ratios:
1st gear 3.67
2nd gear 2.00
3rd gear 1.41
4th gear 1.00
5th gear 0.74
Rev. gear 4.10
Constant 2.2 ... 3.7
I contacted ZF Getriebe GmbH for information on the 5 HP 24 tiptronic transmission they supply for the S4 and A6 2.7T. The Tip in these cars is a 5-speed auto transmission with integrated center torsen differential and a front axle differential.
The Tip can handle 308 hp and 310 ft-lbs. They show 313 HP, but that doesn't follow the math I used:
HP = kW x 1.341
ft-lbs = Nm x .73756
Doesn't look like the Tip will be able to handle a chip upgrade with it only rated for 310 ft-lbs, but my A4 Tip is only rated for 228 ft-lbs and it seems to handle the PES with 265 ft-lbs with no trouble so far.
Transmission capacity:
T(max) Engine at 3500 rpm = 420 Nm
P(max) at 5500 rpm = 230 kW (313 HP)
n(max) in 1st to 4th gear = 7200 rpm
n(max) in 5th gear = 6200 rpm
n(max) KD shift = 7000 rpm
T(max) Turbine foward/reverse = 800 Nm/500 Nm
Converter:
W 260 S with 2 controlled converter clutches
T(p) = 78 -281 Nm at n(p) = 2000 rpm
Ratios:
1st gear 3.57
2nd gear 2.20
3rd gear 1.51
4th gear 1.00
5th gear 0.80
Rev. gear 4.10
Constant 2.63 ... 3.73
Weight with oil 141.1 kg
