Last weekend, I needed some 2 x 4's for a bookshelf project in my house. Did not want to rent a truck, and the quantity was too small to ask the lumberyard to deliver them.
I bought four 9 foot long 2 x 4's, two 6 foot long 2 x 4's and some other assorted junk. I don't know who was more astonished to learn that they all fit in with the trunk closed: My wife who went along to hold them in case they had to stick out the back with a flag as I originally planned, the guy in the lumberyard, or me.
Even after a year, I learn more great things about the car on occasion.

Being a homeowner and doing a complete rennovation, I'm proud to say my A4q 'sedan' has hauled some amazing loads.
Of course, I use blankets to protect the interior.
One time, I hauled several unfinished doors from Home Depot...I thought they'd be too long and stick out....but they didn't. I also hauled almost an entire kitchen's-worth of unassembled cabinets (in boxes).

I'm amazed at how much crap fits in my A4 with the rear seats down. My car is very low and rides on 19's so it looks funny with lumber sticking out the back but oh well

I tried to fit a roll around from Sears in the car and there was no way it would go in. I had to borrow a truck.

If a 1.8T Avant had been available in '98, I might have bought it.
