I had my 99.5 1.8t chipped yesterday by Todd @ AWE. He installed the 1 bar Garrett chip. My car is a tip, so my views will be different from someone who has a manual. Anyway, all differences that i feel between the stock and modded chip are very subtle (in a good way). You will not need a g-suit when you press down on the loud pedal. The chip just makes the car feel alot smoother, it sort of takes the 1.8 "out of the closet". I now have power all the way through the rev range. The car does not "hunt" anymore going up long steep hills (I-287N). Even accelerating moderately, you can feel the power. I put the car into tip mode and tried WOT. I was not pushed back in the seat, but, before i knew it, the speedo was pushing 100. Very, very nice, well worth the $400. I also had Todd install a k & n filter.
My final comment: I'm 48 years of age. The last car i enjoyed driving was my very first car, a 1970.5 Camaro. I loved that car. Since then, i've never had a car that really set my toes wiggling. There was always something missing in the cars i bought (mostly toyotas, hondas). There's nothing wrong with japanese cars (i bought a 98 civic last year), but, they don't have that precision steering feel that the audi does. My wife and i felt like we were "treating" ourselves, when we decided to buy our car. This car is a total pleasure to drive. We wear sandals alot more these days, that way our toes have more room to wiggle. We have named our car "Bullwinkle".
