I posted this q a while back and forgot to bookmark it. Anyway, what's the difference between a pyrometer and an EGT or are they the same thing? I'm installing my K04 this weekend and I'd like to get a VDO gauge and pod to match the OEM lighting.

EGT is just a type of Pyrometer.. basically same thing...

I think the wires and sender cables can be fed through the firewall. I then plan to mount the pod on my a-pillar.

Normally, if you buy a pyrometer, it's probably designed for your tires or brakes to measure tempurature with a probe or laser.

An EGT is an Exhaust Gas Tempurature gauge, and it tells you just that. However, I think that the best place to mount the EGT sensor is in the Exhaust Manifold. If you want to measure the temps in the turbo housing, that's possible, and sounds like that's what you're after. But in terms of using an EGT gauge to measure Turbo Housing temps, there may be some problems. I could be wrong on that though, maybe someone can verify?

Also, I'd be concerned with drilling into the turbo housing since it's sealed, and you don't want to create any leaks or degrade the structural rigidity by drilling a hole in it. Kinda like creating your own cross drilled rotors, sure, they look good, and they probably run cooler, but I wouldn't trust them to stop a 3600lb. car.

What wanted to see was the actual gas temp at the manifold, not the turbo. If the gas temp is way high, I already know what the turbo is like. :)
