Hello,

Few new mods for my 2000 A4 1.8T, and it's like a new car again. Well, it's like it was when it was first chipped again.

I recently installed a Bailey diverter valve from AWE, thanks Todd! I made a comment on the board about no directions, and they went and sent them to me. These guys are great, highly recommended!

Anyway, the valve performed a miracle on my car. Since I'm always in boost, I think my stock valve was totally shot. It was quite easy to move with my finger. Now the car holds boost and builds boost much quicker.

I really wanted to get the cool PSHHHH sound, so I took the plunge and perfored the Airbox mod per www.europeanspeed.com

WOW! Boost builds even quicker now. Throttle response is amazing. May pull slightly higher into the rev limit, but that's still the cars weak point (of course with the tiny turbo).

The sound is subtle, prob more so than an open element intake, but still addicting and satisfying. Honestly, with 1/3-1/2 throttle in 2nd or 3rd from anywhere above 2500 rpm and you get almost immediate thrust. Lay into it and wooosh. Let off the throttle while at full boost and you get the sweet sound, hehe.

Take care,

FB

There are also cheaper alternatives such as Forge or an uprated Bosch OEM type...

I believe Clark (MC) from Turbo5 has an uprated type for about $80 vs $168 or so for Bailey. Forge is about $130 or so? I think they said it was $30 less...

The exhaust will make a big difference in performance. Better throttle response, turbo spools up quicker, and the car will pull harder in the higher rpm range.

I was surprised what a difference the exhaust made, esp. since I had only used aftermarket exhausts on normally aspirated cars.

Did you shorten the inlet path at all?

Where/what did you cut?

I too did this mod including the cutting the inlet pipe. Throttle response has improved dramatically and it seems to climb better in the higer rpms. Mad props to European Speed for posting this. This week I'm going to do the turbo5 DV and drill the inner fender for the stock IC. I will let you guys know how that goes.

Does a bad DV sound like an exhaust leak in the engine bay?

It's probably bad. People have reported many diff symptoms including coke bottle sound, surging, moaning... Anyway, you won't believe the diff the dv will make. I did the steps in reverse order from you (DV then airbox), but I think you will still see a noticeable diff. The sound is pretty cool too, lol.

Take care,

I was just really excited about the whole thing, I wanted to share :D.

I do anticipate the exhaust, but it'll have to wait for awhile, hehe. I was always jealous of the turbo guys with my GSR. They just turn up the boost and add exhaust and voila, tons more power. I gained approx 3HP and 1TQ to the wheels in my GSR for my $400+ exhaust.

Take care,

I followed the directions in www.europeanspeed.com

I sawed the inlet tube about flush with the mounting part. Check the picture, it'll make more sense. Here is another link for alternate directions too:
