I'm trying to see if I can get get enough interest to market a kit to upgrage rear brakes on A4/A6/S4 cars to the A8L rear brakes. This means that one will get 269mmx20mm vented rotors while retaining full functionality of the parking brake! (And of course ABS/ESP etc.)

The $999 A4(1.8T and 2.8)/A6(2.8 and 2.7T) kit will include:
2 specially machined caliper carriers
2 269mmx20mm rotors
2 aluminum calipers (1lbs weight saving per caliper over stock)

The $499 S4 kit will include:
2 specially machined caliper carriers
2 269x20mm rotors

The above prices are based on an interest of 10 or more people. I'll post some pictures later on. Send me email and let me know.

Hey Leszek,

What about the splash shield behind the rotor? Are you planning to discard that? What are the dimensions of the S4 rotor? On the S4, you are keeping the caliper and just spacing it out further from the hub?

Thanks,
Rich

I'm discarding the splash shield as it saves 2.5lbs of unsprung weight. This helps offset the increased weight of the rotor. On the S4 I am keeping the stock caliper.

Sounds like a great upgrade for the A4 or A6. I already have S4 calipers and rotors and I think that'll work for me. If I still had the solid A4 rotors, I'd be very interested.

Thanks,
Rich

Why do you need to machine the calipers carriers to bolt the S4 brakes onto a regualar A4. I am interested in upgrading the rear on my A4 1.8tq would you suggest the A8L brakes or the S4 rear units for the uprgrade and why.
In otherwords what is the diifernece between A8L and S4 rears?

The A8L calipers are the same as the S4, except for the parking brake and brake line fittings. This is why I use the S4 calipers since the parking brake and brake lines for the S4 calipers are the same as those for the A4 calipers. See my pictures above.

Turbo 5 offers this kit...I think it's really from Vortrag. Comes with Pagid pads as well...

you do gain 7mm (Assuming OEM 276mm disks) and better calipers and pads.

from there on out it's used only for parking brake function? Is that one of the more expensive Alcon kit's I'm thinking of?

Straight from the turbo5 site:
Alcon R-Type 2-piston calipers, 11" OEM rotors $1495

So you do loose your parking brake. You can't use the stock A4 caliper on any rotor that's thicker than the stock 10mm one, which means you can't use it on any vented rotor.
