After accelerating, when I ease off the gas, the car 'backfires'. It does this after losing about 2000 rpm and the drivetrain is powering the motor. The backfires are subtle, only audible when the windows are open. It sounds like something is rattling, like crushing the side of an aluminium can. The dealer said that it was backfire, and normal- to prevent water from flowing back up exhaust.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is it really normal?
Also, possibly related, the car has trouble accelerating when it is cold (below 40), until it has run for about 5 minutes- I know all cars need to warm up, but it seems to be extremely sluggish.
Rick K
96 2.8M Europa Blue
