Hello,
I'm going in for my 7.5K service today on my 5 month old 2.8Q and I was considering doing the central locking TSB. I just had a question about its functionality - I understand the doors will lock automatically at ~15mph and unlock when the key is taken out of ignition.... if I were to drive to my neighborhood ATM machine(doors locked) and then get out of the car by pulling the handle twice and leave the engine running, when I close the door will it lock automatically thereby locking me out of the car? I assume it would stay unlocked until I start driving again - those of you who have done this reprogram, am I correct?

Thanks in advance,
lcc 99.5 2.8Q

I have had the re-programming done. The door will not lock itself again when you get out of the care and close the door with the engine running. However it will not lock the driver door again when you reach 15 mph in my experience. From what I have found if you manually work the lock and do not turn off the ignition the lock control mechanism appears to have it's brain scrambled. Turning th ignition switch off and on again appears to reset the system.

I don't think the doors re-lock, but I could be wrong. In any case unless your car rolls and hits 15 mph, the doors should not relock. (use that hand brake!! ;-)

KCraig is absolutely right. The car will lock itself when it hits 15 mph after initial engine start and will not relock itself while the engine is running. If you lock or unlock any or all doors using the handles or the lock button it will also temporarily disable the "auto-unlock when key removed" feature. The operation of that feature, by the way, depends on how you unlocked the car with the remote before you started it. One press, driver's door only means driver's door only unlocks. Two presses, all doors, means all doors open. And, if you weren't sure and pressed it *three* times, getting another light-flash, it reverts to driver's-door-only.

expecially at ATM machines. Wait a minute you just want to get your name in the paper when you are robbed or mugged . Either that or you never read the papers.

Sorry but I can't believe you would leave yourself open this much to crime.

and in 3 minutes anyone can walk by and hop in your car. It takes what- 5 seconds for someone to open the door, get in, close the door, and lock it again...
