The front mats my car came with have the little "key" that is free to rotate in the plastic housing. This would lead me to believe that the mats are designed to lock into place, but the floor of the car doesn't have holes for the "keys" to lock into. It is just a raised cylindrical knob that is solid on the top. The cylinder fits into the mat with the "keys" popped up, but I was just wondering why it's different than what the manual says (that the keys lock into place). The mats fit fine and don't slide... I'm just curious... same with my next two posts.

My old Audi 4000cs had the "key" type floormats and the stud on the floor would allow the two to be locked together. Appearently many people couldn't figure out how to unlock and remove the mats and ended up ripping the whole stud out of the car.
It looks like Audi switched to a simply "snap on" locking system. From the shounds of it, you received the old style mats and the car has the new style snap.

Hope this helps,

That would make sense, because when I picked up my car there weren't any mats, the sales guy went in to the service area and picked up another set. Do you think the dealer would give me the correct ones if I brought it up?
