...my '89, 90Q has done that a few times. It's got 107K miles on it now, but there were 4 or 5 times when it started and acted like it was only running on 3 or 4 cylinders, and the light flickered, THen, after starting to drive, it smoothed out and all was happy! Reggie may be on to something with the moisture thing. Also, if the engine was only run for a short time the night before, it may have been a little flooded. There have been quite a few of those experiences also. Sometimes, the car won't start at all when that happens. I probably wouldn't worry unless it does it often. Wouldn't hurt to mention it at service though. HTH!

The check engine light came on for the first time while driving (1.8T qms 600 miles on car). This was right after a heavy rain. It stayed on for a few days then one day after turning the AC on it went out. I think the moisture theory has some merit.

upon starting the light did not come on, as it had been doing for the previous two days.
maybe it was moisture.
I wanted to go tomorrow after work and have the Neuspeed chip installed but they close at 4pm and I leave at 5pm. So now I'm curious about which path to take. Since I need to send in the ECU, I can look at other chips to buy. Are there any other 0.8 bar chips besides Neuspeed? I don't want to push the K03 too far.

AutoThority in Fairfax Va. has a .8 bar chip that has gotten good reviews on the forum. There was a long post yesterday following a tech session last weekentd at their shop.
I have had their chip for 5K miles and am very happy with it.

Thanks for your input, Glenn. It's much appreciated. I like hearing from owners of upgrades that I want to install.
Well, I have thought long and hard about all this and I think I will take the plunge and get the AutoThority 0.8 bar. Now I just need to get pricing info from them as I want to keep my stock ECU. Not because I want to swap it out for service work but in case the car pings, etc. I want to be able to send the AutoThority ECU back to Virginia for re-programming and still be able to drive.
