All you debadgers out there, I have some questions for you. I will take delivery of a 99.5 1.8T MS on Friday and I agree with those that think the new badging looks like an afterthought. I don't lose sleep over this at night, but if it's not overly hard, I would like to either move the badging up to where it was before or remove it altogether.
Q1: How do you debadge?
Q2: Does it harm the paint?
Q3: How do you rebadge?
Thanks a lot for your time and input. I certainly appreciate it.

This is how I debadged my car.
You'll need
1) Hairdryer
2) Dental Floss
3) some WD-40
4) a cloth and some care
What i did was heated up each lettering one by one until the glue started to melt somewhat, then sprayed a little WD-40 around the lettering and then used the dental floss to cut through the semi-melted glue.
There will be some residual glue on the paint, i took care of that by using a towel or glove to slowly scrape it off. Be careful.
After that, give you car a good wash and it should look beautiful. Have fun.

I took my car ('99.5) in to get the windows tinted. I asked the guy if he could debadge. He pulled out a spatula looking device and *presto* just popped them off. It took less than ten seconds.
I had a '98.5 he debadged the same way too. Neither time was the paint damaged or glue left behind. Best of all it was free.
I tried to debadge a '95 VW GTI and make a mess of it using a hair dryer, razor blade, nail polish remover. DON'T TRY THIS!
Good Luck

i dunno about wd40 but this is what i did.
- hair dryer
- fishing line or dental floss (mint flavored) :)
- goo gone
heat up the area with the hair dryer until the metal is hot to the touch .. i used dental floss (mint flavored) to cut through the adhesive.
there will be residue. apply a good dose of goo gone and gently massage it into the residual glue. after a few min i just wiped it off with a soft towel.
wash the affected area immediately and then apply a coat of wax. voila.
real simple .. took about 10min. and it looks great. oh i only removed the '1.8t' & 'quattro' badges. maybe i'm wacked but i like the off kilter look. :) a thought occured to me while deciding about the 'a4' badge. since i'm seriously considering the 300hp apr stage3 kit when my warranty's gone i'd really like to get a hold of some /// style sport badges to stick in front of the 'A4' badge. short enough to fit under the overhang on top of the 'A'. similar to the ///M style.
has anyone done something like this?

I don't know. I just don't feel good about putting badges on a car that isn't related to the car or manufacturer at all. It would be fast with APR stage 3 though. How about putting on an Audi Sport badge?

I just carefully pulled the suckers off with the dental floss, no heating needed. Most of the extra adhesive goo I was able to roll off with my fingertips alone. I only used a tiny bit of WD-40 to fully remove the remaining goo, then washed, polished and waxed the rear decklid.
