Can't be that bad of a design- plastic is large on passenger side and is one piece under entire window- several bolts and screws!!

That's what this fellow is looking for. The question has been posted at least 5 times this week and no one has had an answer.

Audi advertises a pollen filter to clean the air coming into the interior. If that were true, you would think the filter would need cleaning.

So where is the darn filter? - oh wise westerner who has ripped his interior and AC apart ;-)

...replaced the pollen filter at the 15K mile service, according to the service receipt. If nobody gets the answer before next Thursday (when I go in for service again), then I will try to remember to ask about it. I would like to know also.

I was looking at Curt's website and found these two pics:

That looks like an air filter to me and would seem to be in the general area of where I'd think the climate control system would pull in outside air.

Since this car must be driveable, there are a few things I haven't
removed yet (like the heating/cooling system). Don't want to drive
across Canada in the winter without heat. I pulled out all of the
external A/C stuff (like the condensor, compressor and lines) but
haven't touched the interior stuff yet. If you have a good look at
the ventilation system under your dash you'll see it is REALLY
difficult to get at (with the exception of the fan itself which is very
accessible).

BTW, in looking at the ventilation system, I did not find any panel,
cover or anything removable where you could hide another filter. If
you take the outside filter off you can actually see into the passenger
compartment (with the fan out, that is).

Where the fan blows (the fan exit) there is a heater core (or A/C core,
I'm not sure which). This is not removable, so the filter can't be after
the fan exit. The entire bottom of the ventilation system (the area under
the glovebox itself) looks like it can be removed (dropped down from its
top half), however this is done by removing several (8+?) metal clips all
around the unit. Problem is, several of the clips are BEHIND and are
almost impossible to get at (I did remove two of the rear ones and haven't
put them back because I can't reach in to do it). In fact, I had my entire
console and dashbaord out at one point (pain in the ass to do) and STILL
couldn't remove that stupid bottom cover. Maybe Audi has some secret
magical tool to do this?

This seems like an awful lot of work just to change a filter (there is no
way you could do it without removing several pieces like the glove box
and centre console section).

I have a question too. If there is a "pollen" filter, what does that large
filter at the front do? Maybe the pollen filter replaces this filter, or maybe
it sits under it (thin filter?). I'm still stumped.

Turn the three clips (large round circle with Philips screwdriver
heads in them) about 1/4 or 1/2 turn till they are free. Remove the
single 8mm hex bolt in the middle of the tray. Remove the metal
clip near the middle of the car (by that big cable bundle on the
right hand side of the battery). Tray comes out fairly easy (might
have to wiggle it a bit).

When the tray is out, you need to slide out the other piece of
plastic over the filter (it pops out). That's it.

When I see the phrase "dust and pollen filter" I assume that indicates that the filter removes both dust and pollen, not that there are two seperate filters. Am I missing something?

I took our A6 Avant in for the 15K service today, and asked the service advisor when the darn filter was. He described it exactly where the picture shows it (I didn't bother him to raise the hood and show me, and I think A4/A6 are the same basic configuration; A6 has a bigger cowl to remove though.)

I told him I don't recall ever seeing a "pollen filter" part listed on any of the parts lists for my annual servicing on our A4. He said their printout normally just calls it "filter." I checked my records, and the 30K and 45K servicings did list an unnamed "filter". The 15K service two years ago didn't list it, however.

You'd think Audi would put something in the owners manual for self service guidance after the Audi Advantage expires.

When I see the phrase "dust and pollen filter" I assume that indicates that the filter removes both dust and pollen, not that there are two seperate filters. Am I missing something?

You are correct...there is one filter which removes dust and pollen from the air which is sucked into the climate control system.
