I have a 98.5 1.8tQ with tiptronic, about 6 mos. old. I have the trip computer and reset it each time I fill up so I can track avg mpg, etc. I have found that in city driving in Houston I average between 16.7-17.3 mpg. I do not drive the car all that hard compared to what most "enthusiasts" probably do, and I don't really sit in traffic all that much either. This mileage seems way low. Even on the highway I only get about 24 mpg. How does this compare to other quattro tiptronics out there?

you are probablly getting that tpye of mileage b/c 1:) You have a Quattro 2:)You have the auto tranny 3:) Because you drive a bit heavy on it. The estimated gas mileage is for most drivers a goal to be reached not something to be expected. I get about 24 MPG on average with my 30 min commute everyday, but on road trips I get close to 31 or so. <br>Just use good gas, and drive lightly and your gas mileage will go up. On the flip side drive hard, have fun and don't worry about it too much...

Driving hard in city nets 21-23mpg. 65 mph cruise on the freeway, not a single slowdown or passing is 31.

I have a 1.8tqm. Average 26mpg (40 mile commute with occasional bumper to bumper traffic). Without the traffic, my speed is in the high 70s. If I behave myself and keep it around 65, I can get 30 mpg.
