I want to add a fuse to the fuse panel. There is a vacant switched one but I need the "wire out". In other words the return part of the fuse that runs to the accessory. I've been to my local dealer twice for the female bit that takes the end of the fuse and twice they have given me the wrong part!! It's a female connector that fits in the fuse box. Anyone have a part number?? Or any decent suggestions - Not "why not use an inline fuse??" - Because I'm anal and I own an Audi thats why.
GK
1998.5 2.8 30v Q 5spd

Greg, can only make guesses:
1) These fuses are no different than those used in earlier Audi 90 models (at least the big ATO fuses; little ones are new to me). When I had my Coupe Quattro, I had a parts manual for it. Might try posting in the "other Audi models" forum, see if somebody could check the parts list snd see if one is available. I KNOW for a fact could get various harness connnectors, so you might be in luck.
2) Have you tried Radio S***k? They might have something in their electrical connectors wall space.
Greg,
I just did this for my radar detector. It was a snap. If you remove the fuse panel (held in place by two screws) and pivot it out of the support, you can remove the back cover. You will find that the rows of wires are held in place by plastic guides which can be pulled out from one side (you don't have to pull them all the way out, just enough to slip in the connector). Now for the connector, I simply used a spade lug (not sure if this is the right terminology here) which I crimped onto the end of my wire. This was a perfect fit, not only on the fuse end, but also in the slot on the back of the fuse panel. You should be able to get these at any auto supply store or even at Radio Shack. Once in place, push the plastic retaining bar back in place and your done. I used fuse location 27 which is for the rear wiper on the Avant (I assume) and unoccupied on the sedan. Popped in a low amp fuse (2 or 3 amp I believe) and that was it (other than running the wire up the A piller). I thought the fuse panel design was great and could see many other options for future add-ons. If you would like additional details, feel free to e-mail me (charlieg@iname.com).
Best of Luck,
Charlie
1.8TQMS (3400 miles)
