A performance chip for my 1.8T that can allow me to switch from my stock setup to 14 psi on the fly. For instance... I stop at a stop light and some punk in a Ford Escort or a lowered Honda Civic starts giving me the evil eye and takes off in front of me and cuts me off. Not inconceivable since a stock Escort ZX2 can do 0-60 in 7.8 and a Honda Civic fixed up is pretty speedy. I would hit a button on my dash marked turbo next to my foglight buttons and 200 HP would be illuminated on the button. At the next stoplight... ZOOM!! Opposition in left in the dust. I hit my button again and go into stock mode. Performance when I need it and low boost most of the time so I can reduce wear and tear on my engine and turbo. Is this at all possible?
Mike

They just always left it on. Everyone said that it wasn't worth the extra effort to have the choice. Just use less of that pedal :-)
A high power setup will still be smooth and tractable at lower power demands if done right.

One of the chip makers tried this before, but later withdrew the product.
EricB
98 1.8TQMS

One of the chipmakers tried this, and as a result, the ECU generated random fault codes. AN ODBII ECU gets confused when you switch boost while driving apparently.
It seems like it may be possible if you actually used two ECU's. You could keep your stock one, and have some sort of A-B switch. You would probably have to restart your engine every time you switched. Might it be done.....??
-Stu
