Does anyone know whether the new 1999.5 Audi 265hp Biturbo S4 will be coming to the US? If so how much will it cost. Also, when will the A4 body be significantly redesigned?

The S4 will hit our shores but will be 250 bhp...not the 265 bhp that is in Europe. Latest time frame is at least 9/99...probably later. We are all waiting...not so patiently...for this one.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

250 hp.
I'm sure the chip tuners will soon raise that to or above 265hp.
I thought I read somewhere here that Tiptronic will be optional.

if you keep the stock parts, you can put them back if/when you sell the car, and use your high-end audi gear in the next one.

I have a 2000 so the double din extra wide head unit would look kinda tachy with a spacer in there, just kinda takes away from the whole ergonomic thing. But anyways, the head unit is outputting line level, with amplification going on at the speakers. So can the speakers and amps, get a nice 4 channel amp, and some new speakers and you're good to go. I was looking at MB Quart's website and they have some very nice setups, and adapters are available to stick 'em in the stock locations in the door and the rear deck. check it out

If so, how are they? I've decided to put off my subwoofer plans until after the holidays - too busy. So instead, for cheap thrills, I chipped. Now, I feel like taking a similar trip... wish I had the time.

and installed two amps. Will upgrade the front speakers next. Seems like the voltage is extremely high on the line-outs anybody ever put a meter on it?

>>I don't like the look of a new head unit in the car because it needs a spacer to fit.<<

Does it still need a spacer if you go with a double DIN unit?

>>Are you thinking of keeping the stock head unit for the dash appearance and upgrading the
speakers and amp(s)? Or tossing everything and going with a complete system w/components of your choice?<<

It depends. I'm probably going to start with swapping out the speakers and dropping in an amp or two and see how it is from there.

The sound in my new A4 will never be as good as what it was in my MX3 GS, primarily because I just refuse to do to it what I did in the Mazda - 12 speakers, 3 amps, competition head unit, the works. Sounded amazing and could rattle house windows a block away <G> ... but that doesn't do wonders for the car itself.

Sound quality wise, I'm not sure yet what replacements will be required to get it to the point I want. Meaning, sound quality can be a combination of the stereo's ability, and the speakers / amp system.

Supposedly the A4's stock stereo system has an 80W amp. Is that a separate unit, or is that within the stereo itself?
