I have a A4 2.8 and I was wondering if everybody else had to slam the trunk lid in order for it to be closed properly. In many case when
the trunk lid goes down by its own weight, the
latch does not catch the ring on the lid. Somebody please tell me if this is normal.

Have experienced the same with my '99. My previous '97, however, closed with less effort. Don't think it's a problem; you just need to remember to use a little extra force when closing the trunk. However, I will raise the issue at 7500-mile service visit.

When the first A4's came out, the struts were to weak.

They could be replaced a as warranty item.

Mine are stiff. It is normal.

Mine seems to have loosened up a bit over time (had the car for 8 months now). It still won't close by its own weight, but the amount of force required to get it to close/lock *seems* to be less now.

Also have the problem. Latch was adjusted at 7500 mile service, but with no noticeable difference. I just slam it hard.

This is very easy to fix. unscrew the plastic cover at the bottom of the trunk deck, the you'll see the latch ring with two bolts. Loosen them a bit (not completely) until it can slightly move with some exertion, then close the trunk. Open the trunk, and tighten the bolts again. I can now have the trunk close with little force!
