Has anyone experienced a failure of one or two of the rear defroster heating elements (the thin horizontal strips on the rear glass)? Two top strips on my car seem to be dead.
The defroster still clears 95% of the glass. However the car is under warranty and so I'm sure Audi will fix it. The question is, will the repair end up causing more damage than not doing anything? Specifically, I'm thinking that anytime you remove a windshield or rear glass, there is a risk that the seal will not be as good as factory or that scratches caused in the removal procedure (especially if they have to cut through sealant with a knife edge or piano wire) will end up being rust sites in the future. Can the strips can be repaired without removal of the glass?
I can probably live with the problem since I only use the defroster a handful of times in the winter. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

DG
97 1.8tqms Pearl
20" of snow in the last week in Toronto --- Quattro to the resuce!
