But considering it was taken in a moving car at night, it's the best I could do (you should see the others). These are actually the instruments of a A6 4.2, but I'm sure the A4 lighting is the same. It's interesting to note that the S4 still has all red lighting, with white needles.

I also now no longer buy the argument that the numerals were changed to help those who are color blind. If red numbers are hard to see, surely red needles are hard to see. So now color blind folks can read the numbers but not see which one the needle is pointing to. I think this change was just made for what Audi felt would be all-round improved readability of the numerals. I do not agree with their assesment, but that's life I guess.

You know it's interesting. I've been following this forum for over three years and I can't tell you how many times I've heard people call the red lighting a "design flaw" because it was hard to see the Red-line indicator on the Tach at night. Now that the lighting has been changed and red-line will be clearly visable at night, we get people complaining that it's not all red. I guess you can't win all of the time.

Boo Hoo the new models are out and your cars aren't "the latest thing" who cares? I mean really you don't have to knock every little thing about the new model, your driving a great car why not just be happy without trying to find fault.
next summer all of the 2000 owners will be complaining that that the 2001 models are ugly and how glad they are they bought 2000... Give me a break...

The 2000 model year seems to be the first year where there is some major controversy whether the changes are good. Specifically, the sport wheels seem to have received a mixed review from the A4.org crowd. The interior lighting and analog clock change are fairly minor differences-probably neither better or worse- just different. I do lament not getting the in dash CD player or the full size spare of the 2000 MY. So it is a mixed bag. I am pleased with my decision - because although I knew about the CD and spare changes, I would have been very disappointed in the sport package wheels.

To each their own.

I always thought it was a little pretentious. Passengers could never read it either.

as someone who is colorblind and has trouble with red at night, it would be much easier to see a red line than red #s at night. so i guess it makes sense.

The wifes Passat wagon has them and I can tell you the blue is really annoying. I can never get the intensity right... either they are too bright and distract me while driving or too dim to see them clearly. I have excellent vision and they always seem blurry or out of focus. I'll take the nice red of my A4 ANYDAY!!
