View Full Version : Need some expert advice from the GIAC chip fans out there!

I recently installed a GIAC Stage 1.5 chip in my 2000 A4 1.8T Manual transmission. The chip seems to work beautifully and there is a visible boost in power in all gears. However, there are two minor issues that have surfaced that concern me a bit perhaps just due to lack of my knowledge about what goes on behind the scenes in a chipped car.
The First thing that concerns me is that the car performs beautifully at low speeds but at high speeds (above 80mph) I start feeling a slight vibration. Is this normal with a GIAC chip or is there something that anyone can recommend I do to fix this problem.
The Second thing I noticed is that when I step on the gas pedal especially in the lower gears, I hear a slight hissing sound when the turbo kicks in. I am assuming that this might be because the chip causes more air to be into the turbo and I was just wondering if this was normal too.

Any advice/suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Is the vibration coming from the engine or the steering column. Maybe you just have unbalanced tires.

Hissing is normal for a turbo.

The first thing i did after feeling the vibration is get my tires checked out to make sure they were balanced and aligned. So its not that and it started occuring right after I got the chip installed.

If the vibration is indeed chip related, I would want to do that first.

As posted already, the hissing is normal. I have no vibration at high speeds and I have been 142+. If the steering wheel is shaking then my first guess would be unbalanced tires.

Never thought the engine would wind that high?

Nice to know it can be done!
