I am going to be making an appt very soon for my 7500 mile service. I would like to have the remote reprogrammed and also get the remote range fixed. The last time I brought it in to Carlsen complaining about the remote range, Eric (Erik) told me that my remote range was fine and that the only people the remote range fix TSB related to were people who had to sit inside the car to set off the remote.
So, what should I do to be more successful in getting the range fixed and how much did Carlsen charge to reprogram the remotes?
Use my email address if you would prefer to send me the cost privately.
-henri

Henri,
Please post the results of what you find out. Carlsen's response sounds an awful lot like the Leith Audi, Cary, NC response. They want $70 to reprogram and told me I
don't have a problem with the range (twice now)....
Thanks,
Clair (early) 98.5 2.8 FWD MAN

I brought in my friend's A4 to Carlsen a few times by now. He has a 96 and the remote range is... say... minimal. Twice Eric told me that I don't have a problem so what am I complaining about.
With my car (98.5) same thing. I pointed out what the idea was behind a panic button if I had to be next to or already inside the car to set it off, without getting any sensible answer. I mentioned that "if my A4 is ok, what's wrong with my dad's A6 that opens the doors at 100+ft" and that yielded no good results either.
As for reprogramming the remote: I wanted to have the horn off when locking, they asked for $45. Only my screaming that the car was damaged on delivery and they had the balls to charge me for the reprograming brought an offer to get it for free (I ended up not reprogramming the remote).
So far, I was at Carlsen for service 5x with two different A4s. As long as you do a straight service I had no problems (but naturally I have no way of knowing whether they did everything well), but as soon as you deviate only a little bit from straightforward, they will get out of their way not to fix it.
Just my $.02, and I would publicly repeat it anytime, to anyone. Last time when an unnamed person brought up my complaints to the service dept, they supposedly said I was at their place only once. Strange how all the receipts come into my drawer... Some people say that they have great mechanics (Steve Shupe), which may be true, but what does it matter to me if they first tell me that I don't have a problem to begin with? This included a sunroof that creaked like there was no tomorrow when openting - "we didn't find a problem". Cool.
Their parts department rocks, though. And they take AmEx :-)
- Stan
