I noticed that my brakes turned RED!!! Iron oxide perhaps? Should this happen? Is that bad for the brakes? The red layer rubbed off where I could get to it with a cloth. This seems weird.<p>Mike

How old is your car? How many miles? It may be Cosmolene burning off of the engine and exhaust system. BUT, if it smells like oil, it may be like I had, although I doubt it as I think it was a freak thing, a cracked valve cover. Easy fix for the dealer. Open the hood and see if you see puffs of oil smelling smoke coming up from either side of the engine. BUT, only if the smell is oil-like in nature would I consider this if I were you as it is probably one in a million.<p>Kirk<br>
