frank wetterauer told me that he dyno'd a car with a freer flowing exhaust and found that it
only gained 2-4 hp.. he told me not to waste my money.
they also sell a special filter which i also do not have. the stock air filter draws in cool air
whereas the aftermarket stuff draws in air from directly beside the turbo.. whatever
gains it has i'm sure would be lost by the higher intake temperatures.
If a cone filter is fitted, it usually means that the airbox assembly is removed. The airbox assembly routes cool air from the outside through a panel-type filter. If the airbox is removed completely and the intake tube is fitted with a cone filter, it will be drawing warmer air from directly under the hood. This WILL cause a power loss. In fact, it was proven in a recent article in one of the car mags.

Quick question: How do I reomove the stock 1999 head unit? My local Audi dealer can't get me in for another week and would like to check the 5 amp fuse for the radio. Please let me know whether or no this is an utter #%*@(#.
Thanks
Vince

There are two horizontal slots at the bottom of the radio. I grabbed two cheapo $0.50 steel flat letter openers out of the supply closet here at work. Carefully insert the letter openers rather deeply and you will acutally pull in a clip on either side of the radio.
I actually blew the fuse working on the Radio at one point. BTW it is a full size spade fuse unlike the mini fuses the rest of the car uses.
Symptoms are that the radio is totally dead... no display lights etc...
Good luck.

An icepick would not fit into the slots so, I used an old credit card. Use scissors to cut two pieces about 1/8th inch wide and 3inches long. The left side took a few minutes and curse words to release but it wasnt too bad.

The radio was designed to be removed with the Mercedes radio removal tool. I think Snap-on sells this tool... for like $60+.
How do I know this? I installed a Pro-Fit car phone mount in my 98 1.8TQ which required removing the radio. The instructions state to use the Mercedes radio removal tool... luckily my brother owns a car audio & alarm store and had the tool.

I just figure it is something in the quattro drivetrain catching up to itself. I am not worrying about it. Now if you are just coasting...and you got shudder....it could be 1) wheels out of balance...2) bent rim or rims....3) wheel bearing (you would have other symptoms)....4) other???

You sure it is not happening when you are letting off the gas changing gears...that is when my A4 does it...
