Wondering how they look...is the sport seat supportive enough in leatherette...or do you find your butt swinging out of the seat on sharp corners? It is best to stick to the onyx cloth sport seats?
Thinking of the future....(maybe near future...maybe far off future)
Thanks
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

...Sitting and seeing at the dealership, I prefer the cloth, personally. For not being the real thing, the leatherette is nice, but the cloth is more sporty. I'm comparing cloth sport to leatherette non-sport, btw. I wasn't aware that sport seats were now available in leatherette. I'm sure you'd stick just fine in the summer! :-) I sure wish the leather sport seats would become available on the 1.8, but the cloth is really, really nice for not being cow! ANd even though I'm a pretty big guy, I love the tight fit of the sport seats.
Charles
I have a 99 with sports seats in the onyx cloth. I love them. I was going to get them in leatherette, but the dealer could not find the other options I wanted on my 1.8T with leatherette. You probably can't go wrong either way. Although in the long run cloth is probably going to be more comfortable/practical.

Don't go out of your way...but if you did I could scan it for others to see. I
have not been actively checking for onyx cloth sport seats...but I am on
the search now. I will begin a periodic search at my local dealers for
either. Thanks for the comments.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
It is my understanding that sport seats are only available in leather or cloth (cloth only on the 1.8T's).

If you mean by "order", those cars special ordered from Germany and shipped to the US, then it's not a silly question. But if you mean those cars that a dealer has to locate from another US dealership, then it IS a silly question, because whether you drive a car right off your dealer's lot, or the dealer has to locate the car from another dealership, there should be no difference (unless in transporting the car from another dealer the car somehow gets screws it up).

I really doubt if they know if the car they are assembling is a special order or not. Transporting a car can only hurt it cosmetically, not mechanically.

He's wondering his there is a statiscally significant difference between reported/repared problem between cars that are abused during test drives "off the lot" (hard accels during break in not recommended by manufacturer) versus those that are delivered straight into the hands of loving owners, (excepting driving off of boat onto truck/train, and drive by dealer down to the gas station to fill it up during pdi)

My 99.5 A4 2.8 had 36 miles when I purchased it off the lot. Well, 10 of those miles were from me test driving it and another 5 for the dealer to gas it up. So I am assuming that maybe only two other people test drove my car. But it now has 3,000 miles and not a single problem, it has been flawless (knock on the wood finish).

I also purchased a 99.5 A4 2.8QMS off the lot with 30 miles on it. Only items back to the dealer for, wheel balance and program auto door locking at 10+mph. (Nice feature by the way)

then you just take the keys and a dealer tag and hold on while a professional race car driver gets a 2.8 quattro into a 4 wheel power slide down a (dry!!) twisty country road.

I'm still set on a 1.8T and a chip, though.
