View Full Version : Another question about springs and shocks Warren 12-08-1998, 08:06 PM Pete 01-07-1999, 12:35 AM Damon mentioned in reply to my previous post that the ride quality is going to suffer if i just replace springs and not replace the dampers. is this all that would be effected or is there anything else i should be aware of should i decide not to go with shocks?
i'm on a restricted budget...also, i used to have an eagle talon so i'm pretty used to a rough ride. i actually kind of like it.
btw, thanks Craig B. for the pics -- i love it when you post an inquiry and someone delivers exactly what you want. CraigB 01-07-1999, 04:47 AM with the shorter springs and stock or factory-sport shocks, you would experience less dampening than needed. This would result in a bouncier ride, than what you have now. Most (if not all) on the Forum that have just swapped springs, wound up getting shocks later on, resulting in duplicate installation charges. I'd wait 'til you can get the whole package. Also, I went against my (and others) better judgement and only set my Konis on medium and they're still a little soft (too much rebound, in front esp.). Make sure you get some good info (archives) on ride quality and, if possible, take a ride in someones upgraded car, to see if it's what you want. HTH.
CraigB Michael Arredondo 01-07-1999, 06:12 AM that insufficient damping affects more than ride quality. Road holding can be seriously degraded by inadquate damping. Imagine taking a bumpy corner at speed with the dampers not able to cope....not fun. randall 07-30-1999, 06:00 AM I used liquid Glass on previous cars. I stopped when I discovered that they have abrasives in it. You are actually buffing the car. I believe 1 type is made in Canada, the other in the USA, but I don't remember the diffs between the two.. 1996 a4 2.8 qm (no liquid glass, just wax) adc 09-17-1999, 09:58 AM Paul G. 09-17-1999, 10:18 AM dB 09-17-1999, 10:21 AM and relish the amount of extra time you have to save more money!! It's time to take another "test drive" at the dealership next week. RSS 09-17-1999, 12:00 PM PhilJ 09-17-1999, 01:19 PM check out Griot's Garage, they have all kinds of cool stuff for your car. I've bought a bunch of things from them, but by far the best purchase I've made is their hose nozzle, it looks like a fireman's nozzle, made of billet aluminum and simply floods your car with water. I'm too lazy to clean out my garage and prep and paint the floor, but a friend of mine did, and it's really really nice. It's also a lot easier to keep clean... -PhilJ

Lots of pretty cool stuff for your car...

Space 09-17-1999, 01:31 PM NT A. Imagine thinking that in just a few weeks I'll be upgrading to an A4! To make things worse this will also be my first car! talk about excited! |
