I've had a look at the new 1999.5 A4 with sports suspension. However, it doesn't look very low...I know it's only been lowered a few inches, but what is involved in lowering it further?

Sport suspension is 20mm lower than stock. This is done through a spring change with appropriately damped shocks added also.

If you want to go lower, you'll at least need a new set of springs but you're really better off swapping both springs and shocks as the original shocks won't last very long with lowering springs nor will they give a very controlled ride.

When I look at the A4's wheel wells, it seems that about 20mm of drop (the sport package lowering) would perfectly center the wheel in the arch. On my non-sport A4, the wheel looks a bit low in the wheel well. IMHO, the S4 looks a bit too low - for the arches at least. There's much less room between the tire and the arch at the top of the wheel than at the sides. In my book, this is a bit of a no-no. Still, drops bigger than that give a sporty look that some people like.

i've been wondering in general about the handling characteristics of the a4
without the sport package. how much does it add in both front-trak and quattro
specs. i'm not crazy about the 16" 7-spokes, really like the looks of the 15's
better. i'm thinking of forgeting about the sport pkg, and just going with the 1.8Tqm
and a 3-spoke wheel.

any feedback would be *greatly* appreciated !

Much better handling and no sacrifice in road comfort. To duplicate would cost $1000 in the suspension changes alone.
