Over the course of the last couple of months performance slowly derogated. Little by little my tune slipped into a high RPM misfire (kinda' like Win98).
With new MAF sensor the car is remarkably strong. So much so I'm going to check if part# is same (no, I'm not starting another damn part change rumor).
With all the tuning changes many of us are/will/have made, is the MAF ever changed for performance purposes and if so, why?

The MAF sensor was the suspect. This dealer says they have seen a # of TT's coming in with failed part. I hope I don't have that to look forward to.

Computer must rely on airflow numbers to determine fuel, spark and boost that engine needs.
GIGO: if mass airflow numbers are corrupt, computer makes dumb decisions.
Not exactly sure how this system is programmed, but airflow is probably most important input.
If new MAF 'cured' your problem, be thankful. Just imagine how happy the engine computer is now!
Hey, that's my take after a little single malt and a bit of chardonnay tonite.

if modified engine's airflow exceeded capacity of stock MAF. If 225 MAF is same P/N as 180, it obviously supports airflow for 225+. Typically, stock MAF should support at least 25% more flow (HP) than original design. 225/180=1.25.
If you tried to put more air thru it than design maximum it would either cause a (mechanical) restriction to airflow, or give incorrect readings to computer. If that caused computer to go lean, you could harm the engine.
Have any of the tuners offered/suggested higher flow MAF's?
