Picked up the new 225c, silver on gray, on Saturday morning from Tischer in Silver Spring MD.
Likes:
- 3 1/2 month wait, rather than the six to eight or more months I hear about on the West coast.
- Straightforward delivery and financing (through VW credit); car was in perfect shape, 16 miles on the odo, spotless. Dealer was delivering a $115K 911 Turbo that morning, but I got the same level of attention.
- The car is beautifully designed, the most clearly executed industrial design I've ever seen. My nine-year-old picked up on it completely, explaining the "three-circles, eight studs" leimotif to his buds. One proclaimed it "the coolest car in the world." (His dad has an SLK.)
- The obvious: driving the car is a treat. Turbo lag is more noticeable than I would have guessed from the forum, but nothing like my Saabs, and it pulls like crazy in all six gears. It's my first sports car, and I have a lot to learn.
- The carpet is way cool.
- The back seat. It works great, despite what you've heard, as long as it's kids you're hauling around. Seriously, this is the reason we ended up with a TT rather than an A4--a functional back seat when you need space for a kid or two. I'd sure hate to ride back there, though.
- The "side-of-the-knee" pad. I wedge myself in between that and the dead pedal, and there I am, locked in and going fast.
- Discovering the recreational aspects of DC's traffic circles.
- The neck-snapping double takes from drivers of 3-series BMWs and Boxsters.
- The big happy wave from the green TTR on Embassy Row.
Dislikes:
- When you slide the seat way forward, it jams against the aforementioned knee pad. I suppose it won't spend too much time in that postion, though.
- Going 25 mph over bumpy DC roads.
- The stock radio is just that. The compromises one makes. . .
- VW Credit's expensive, and non-negotiable, lease terms.
- The damn front license plate.
All in all, a no-disappointment first 100 miles. Definitely a case of the new-car jitters, ratcheted up TT-style: parking a foot away from the curb and 30 feet from anyone else; triple-checking to make sure all is well in the driveway; Beltway paranoia, etc.
The forum got me through the wait, and help shaped some realistic expectations. Thanks to all.
