is going to go bad eventually anyway or is there a recommended amount of miles you should wait? Or do you wait until it starts "Cok-bottling" or "Honking" first? Any recommedations? Especially looking for info on the 180 HP coupe since I am going to place an order for one tomorrow, if this Bailey valve needs to get ordered then I'm not even going to wait to get the car to order it! Thanks in Advance
Thanks,

If you're definitely going to replace it, and you're buying now, replace it now. That way, you have an emergency valve, and a working extra valve to replace when going in for service. No sense in putting it off until it dies, potentially causing damage to the turbo.

and will replace it as soon as it gets here. I rather have the piece of mind then to wait till someting goes wrong.

There exists a choice.
Choice 1 would be to replace now, and never worry about it again.
Choice 2 would be to wait for it to die, then replace it with the Bailey valve, unless Audi has come up with a fix by then, thus saving you ~$160 (price after today).
Choice 3 would be to just pray that Audi fixes this in a timely fashion before yours dies, and do nothing.
Choice 4 would be to buy it now, but wait until yours dies, and then replace it.
Seems like you were leaning towards choice 4, which wouldn't make sense, why have a working valve lying around waiting for a known faulty part to break? Just replace it now so you have a spare as a backup for temporary use (OEM valve).

nothing is definite in this world. I have 20,500 on my 180TTQ and the valve is still doing fine. I ordered my Bailey this morning from Todd, today is the last day for the BIG discount. I will hang onto the Bailey and have the dealer do the swap on the stock valve to the H or whatever is the Audi "fix", then put in my Bailey. if my stock valve goes before then I will put in the Bailey on my own.

Chris, I am going to put a down payment on a car tomorrow but it won't get here for a few months (good since I will need that long to get$). But since the D/V seems to be "semi" hard to get since it seems alot of people are after it I am actually thinking after reading all of this forum stuff about how it goes bad to order it while waiting so I have it when my car arrives and replace it right away, hence my original question, so Thank You very much for your info. I just didn't know if it was safe to put it in right away but rest assured, that's waht is going to haapen. It also sounds like you are saying though it is easy to remove and replace, and you need to have the original in when you go in for service at Audi, correct?
Thanks,

Hello Victor,
yes it is. The related subjects in the NG tt.technik contain
"Schnarrventil" (which means nearly the same as "goose honking valve")
or "Schubumluftventil".
It seems that the actual order numer for the part is 06A 145 710 G
but noone knows whether it really solves the problem.

That is the understanding. I am going to poke my head in this weekend and look, but from what I understand, it is a quick easy swap. As far as the reasoning for keeping the old one around for service visits, well, I am a firm believer in "avoid the problem all together instead of finding the solution", so in this case, avoid having the dealer even know about another diverter valve, instead of trying to argue with them about my warantee because they see it in the car.
I was mistaken though, I thought you already had your car. If you haven't even placed the order through yet, its quite possible that this fix may be resolved before your car is even built. Then again, it may not be. $130 is cheap insurance in the event that it doesn't, and I think the attitude you're taking on it is a good one. If it is fixed by the time your car is produced and shipped, great, you have a spare diverter valve just in case. Doesn't hurt, and since its not a very high cost item, its no big deal (I am assuming its no big deal for you or anyone here, if you can afford a $38-42k car, you can afford a 130$ valve I would think).

I agree all the way around with everything you said in that response. I fyou don't mind, when you find out about how easy it is to swap maybe you could either post it or Email me and let me know. That might affect my decision on ordering it, but I think for 160 or whatever it costs, I'll just order it sometime over the next (approx) 4 months. In the meantime, tomorrow will be damn exciting, you guys got me all worked up just thinking about this! How I'm going to survive until the damn car gets here, I'm not sure. Thanks again for the info. Dean
Thanks,

I asked them to check mine, I figured I would have it in the computer at the dealership that I am concerned about it :)
They said they have not seen any cars other than 225TT's with the bad DV. they had already replaced a few of them, but they said they are awaiting a final "fix". I never broached the Bailey with them.
The next time I am in CT I will stop by and ask them to change mine to the newest valve that is available at that time. Once the dealer swaps it, I will put in my Bailey Valve. If they don't want to swap it out, then I will do it and keep the stock unit in my car next to my spare ECU.

Could anybody lead me to the way of obtaining a good aftermarket diverter valve for the k04 turbo?
i own an S3, almost the same as the 225TT and my brother is waiting for his TT.
Thanks is advance.

I just got off the phone my service rep. They will not cover the expense of the Bailey DV, the installation or anything that may go wrong after it's installed. If your turbo sucks up a wad of rubber from the Audi DV, Audi covers the repair. If the DV is anything other than an Audi DV, the destoyed turbo and repair is at your expense.
At least that's what I was told.

I would not expect them to tell you anything else! if you change your radio, some dealer will tell you that it voids your warranty! I am not making this up, some on this forum have been told that in the past.
Have the atitude that you know more than your dealer, which in most cases you do. What the dealer does not know in regards to what you have done to make your car safer, better, faster won't hurt you! :)

problem fixed by using the Bailey valve, do I really want to risk blowing my turbo by keeping a defective valve? So what that Audi will fix it under warranty? I don't want to go there at all.

There are reports that the latest new 225s have a fixed DV (rumors abound about an "H" part), so you may also want to see if the problem ever develops for you at all...
