Hi All!

Just got my 1999.5 - 2.8, and was wondering if it is normal for the climate control to sound like a jet engine at times. The sound appears to come from below the car where a front seat passenger's feat would be. Only happens on the few times when it has been hot outside (95 degrees) and the Auto climate control system cranks up as to a high fan speed (climate controld set to 75 degrees). The noise usually stops after a few minutes (my guess is the system is slowing down since the interior is cooler), but damn, I just pulled into my garage (and had the car still running) and thought a jet plane was flying in behind me.

thanks in advance!

Especially noticable in the garage and during high temperatures. It sounds like the compressor spooling down when I shut the car off. Actually jet-engines have a compressor stage and the turbine stage so the whirr we hear might be similar. On mine it sounds like it comes from under the hood. I work for a "jet-engine" company so I think it sounds kind of cool.

Is the noise you're referring to the 2nd cooling fan in front of the engine - which appears to operate only with the compressor on? It is loud when outside the car or with the window/door open in closed-in areas.

With the windows up, I never hear it. With them down, and outside of my garage, it kind of sounds like a very faint "tornado" warning. In the garage with the windows down, I double checked before backing out fo the garage since I thought it was a truck idling out there.

Though I am feeling better that the prvious poster also hears it. Thus, it is a feature, not a problem. Thankfully, having read this board for months, I have gotten used to the compressor noise when you turn the car off. If I had not been warned, I would have been panicing.
