Strange thing, but my 7 year old nephew ended up inserting a number of items (paperclips and pebbles INto/underneath the tiptronic gear shift cover -- don't ask me how this happenned, but any and all help removing the gear shift cover would be very appreciated... I doubt AoA will cover this in their warranty ;^)

Thanks in advance.

I would hate to say it. But the center console needs removing.

In fact the rear needs removal then the front. I've done it as I am converting my regulaer automatic to Tip.

Then you can unclip the cover.

Check the FAQ for removal *I think there is instructions**

the a4 faq (in interor section) is specific and accurate; however, it assumes a manual xmission; a bit different to get into a tip; for example, the shift knob does not screw off, and the cover plate is fastened differently as well; parking brake cover is also a removal; archives have info on both;
for a bit more info on removal of the shift cover, look at the whole thread below in the archives.

I got a kit from someone who coverted from regular auto to tip then to maunal transmission.

Originally the kit came from AMS in CAL. I got the kit without instusctions. Luckly I have a copy of the automatic transmission wiring diagrams.

The kit comes with the shift mechanism, some wiring etc. You need to run 3 or 4 wires to the transmission computer. Apparenlt the '97 on transmission computers are tip ready.

No change of transmission.
