Previously, I have mentioned that my FWD coupe exhibits a "rattle" when stepping on or off of the gas. This is not the normal wastegate sound, but something more. A number of you have e-mailed me asking for the fix.
The problem apparently lies with the turbo purge valve. The solution is to replace it. If your service department is having a hard time diagnosing this problem, ask them to replace that valve and see it it helps.

Audi knows about this, apparently. After my two day service call, I examined the documentation they provided me .Apparently, this is the fix they tried for my exhaust sound problem, at the suggestion of the Audi service hotline.
They're telling me that all 225s have this noise.

We may or may not be talking about the same problem. My 180 FWD has it big time, but my 225 does not. So there goes the theory that all of the 225s have this problem. You could always ask your dealer to replace this valve, which doesn't sound like an expensive part, just to see what happens.
Again, for me the sound is a metalllic rattling noise emanating from under the hood. It only occurs upon acceleration or deceleration, such as when shifting.

Mine doesn't either, my man. Let us know what the technician finds.

I get an occasional 'metallic rattle' for example when manouvering out of the garage when the car is cold. It goes away when the car warms up, so it makes me think it is a heat shield somewhere just touching before it expands as it warms up and moves away from the part it is rattling against.
I never even thought of is as a problem -- just assumed it was normal, since the car had 8 miles on it and the salesman was sitting right next to me.
Geesh -- No wonder I didn't like the sound of the engine!

Well, this is actually part of the problem. They tell me that everyone they've seen has it, and that there's nothing more they can do.
New dealer on Thursday. I'll post as to my luck there.

I think it has something to do with bleeding off turbo pressure. Also, I suspect that the problem that I am describing is seperate from the resonance issue.

I found the sound you are talking about, it happened today in my car, but I couldn't figure out what it was, since it happened on a low RPM acceleration, and it was slightly uphill. It was a sharp rattle, unlike the usual acceleration rattle on a wrong gear. But it doesn't happen often, in fact, that was the first time I heard it.

I've also had this similar problem in my 180Q.
Its sounds as if theres something spinning down...(metallic type sound). This only happend in 3rd gear when it drops speed from 40 thru to 30mph....which is around 3K-2.5K RPM
The dealer looked at this for the first time and i believed they changed some kind of valve? I cant remember what the valve was called but the purpose was to reduce emissions from the car.
After getting the car back i still noticed this sound occurring. But in addition to this i noticed another sound! Again it sounds as if theres something spinning down (but a different pitch)
It happens when you begin to accerate (turbo kicks in) and then you lift off the accerlerator quickly. Or if you change up a gear really quickly.
I then took it back for the 2nd time!
They had it for a few days to check it out....
The result was that they changed the dump valve (wastegate valve) from another car. The purpose of this was to bleed off turbo pressure.
But yet this has not fixed the problem completely
as i can still hear the sound when its in 3rd gear as it drops speed from 50-35mph (it use to happen at 40-30mph?) Although the sound is lesser now compared to before.
And concerning the 2nd sound i was getting when lifting off the accerlerator....It has stopped after the 2nd vist to the dealer.
At the moment i plan to drive the car aot more to put some more miles on.....and see how it gets on from there?
