...And if you chose no front plate, have you had any hassles from the police? (Particularly interested in Chicago Police's reactions.)

I was parked on the street in downtown Chicago (coins in meter, completely legal). I got two tickets: one for no city sticker and one for no front plate. That's just Chicago though.

I decided to take a chance after I started counting the number of Corvettes and Firebirds that are front plateless in Illinois.

The old left arm doesn't know what the right arm is doing excuse.

Cars that I haven't been stopped in:

Porsche 993 C4S w/ TechArt wheels, Euro stuff, etc.
Audi A4 1.8T w/ 18" O.Z.'s, roll cage, etc.
Audi TT...

Etc.

Only car I've been stopped in:

1967 Lotus Elan, 800 block of Michigan Ave.

Cop: "What is that?"
Me: "Lotus."
Cop: "Why don't you have a front license plate?"
Me: "Nowhere to put it."
Cop: "Oh."

And he drove off.

No license plate brackets on our cars, though... (note: haven't seen any Chicago Vipers, Vettes, AIV Roadsters, etc. with front plates... not a SINGLE front plate. Also: haven't seen any Porsche 996's with plates, some Boxsters though...)

They told me they only install them at customers' requests. I'm still paranoid that somehow it will find its way onto my car. Anyone else here order from Continetal in Aurora?

I picked up my 225 coupe there a couple weeks ago. They did not install the bracket -- they just left it in the "trunk".

All dealerships, not just Continental, receive their TTs sans the front plate bracket. They don't order them that way. Just make sure that they don't install it during dealer prep.

ticket for no front plate while parked at the train station. Local cops are great guys (Lake Bluff) unlike the a**holes from Lake Forest. Have seen a lot of BMW 7 series with the BMW Badge on a cheesy looking front gold plate. Must be hard to BS the cop when you have a front plate with a logo on it. "Why does my front plate have a BMW badge on it, Officer? Same reason I had a sunroof on the fake covertible top of my Cadillac ten years ago."
