Let me start by saying that I rewad the archieves already.....
I'm interested in gathering some feedback from TAP Stage 1 Chip owners. Such as:
1) Performance increase
2) Purchase experience (Installation, downtime, etc.)
3) ANY problems experienced since installation of the chip
4) Your honest suggestion....is it worth it? If you had to do it over again, would you still make the purchase?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Larry
98.5 1.8T (chipless) :-(

Ok, here it goes. I have driven both the tap and the neuspeed chips in the 1.8t. Even if the neuspeed chip was the one with the 500 dollar price I would have purchased it anyway. It is just that much better than the stage 1 chip from tap. I have not driven the stage 2 or better tap chip, so you're on your own there. Now why are you considering the tap stage 1 chip? I would move up to the stage 2 or wetterauer in that price range. For the .8bar chip the neuspeed chip cannot be be beat for price/performance. No I do not work for neuspeed, just trying to help.
Steph
1.8tqms klasse/chip

FWIW (not much, I know), the TAP stage 1 or 2, if I can swing the bucks, is probably my first choice for a chip for a few reasons. I had my car in for service last week and had a nice long conversation with my service manager and tech while the tech put the finishing touches on my car's service (he was installing a new pollen filter). I had them put my R-28 package on instead of rotating the stock wheels. We were talking wheels, then aftermarket mods and the conversation made its way to chips when another manager came over and said, "nice wheels, you chip it yet?"
I saw my opening and started asking questions about the different brands and warranty considerations. Their standard response is still that chips do not offer enough bang for the buck, but my service manager recommended I call a local with lots of experience in chipping and racing, so I did. This guy has had every chip, except the Neuspeed, in his car at one time or another. He's had his car over 300 hp but has settled on a setup of around 250. He said if he could only make one mod his choice would be Tap stage 2 with the catback, but the stage 1 would be his next choice. He also recommended Revspeed in Colorado Springs.
Also, in the European Car comparo of chips a few months ago, they had some nice things to say about the TAP. It's moderately priced, offers moderate boost of about 11 pounds, and suffered no detonation whatsoever, unlike some of the other chips. It also offers a healthy power increase and a nice torque curve. I'll probably chip in the Spring and could change my mind 7 or times between now and then, but right now the TAP is my first choice.
Andy

I live in C- Springs, and Revspeed seems like a really good place to get TAP work done on an A4. I am considering a stage 1 upgrade, but I just can't get over the price as compared to Neuspeed. If TAP were the price of Neuspeed I would go for it.
Brant
98.5 1.8 TQM
Brant, I live in Colorado Springs too. This summer Dave Jones (revsport) let me try a Stage II TAP chip for an hour during lunch. It was quite warm out (90+). I didn't have any exhaust or filter and the chip was fast, and very well behaved, not pings etc. I highly recommend it. If I had money to spend on that I'd already have one.
Paul C.
Silver '98 A4tqms

Time to start saving up!
Are there any good A4 events or clubs here in the springs?
Brant
You should contact Dave at revsport. He has a pretty good handle on that stuff. I spend most of my time riding my mountain bike, running, snowboarding and playing with my kids, not in that order. Dave's phone number is 471-4103.
PC
I have a stage 2 chip in mine for more than a year. It has been the best decision I have ever made. Stage 1 was an option, but the stage 2 is well taken and results are excellent, 2 days downtime then, now turnaround is faster. Go for it, you will not rgret it1

Dave Jones at RevSport let me use a Stage 1 during the 2.5 day downtime getting my Stage 2 put into original ECU. Stage 1 feels faster in the seat of the pants due to increased turbo lag as a result of more back pressure. Stage 2 involves changing air filter and scorpion cat back exhaust system. Less back pressure means less lag and acceleration is smoother. Sensation of sudden rush is not as great in Stage 2, although car is certainly faster.
Hope this helps.
-Todd
98 Silver 1.8tqms
83 UrQ

Kris, I know it is out of your control but this is the SHT you will end up with on AW now. This would have never happened in the old format.
