Hey,

You may have guessed that I sell Audi.

This is a dirty trick, but is done by dealerships that "lowball " the customer. If you are paying less than $1200 over invoice, there is a good chance that the dealership has not ordered your car. It seems to be the threshold at which the dealership gets serious about the customer. There is too much overhead to make anything less than the above amount worth the effort. They wait for you to get desperate and then dump a car on you.

I had a manager who would take orders from me ( only sometimes order the car ), and then not give me access to update the customer. He would get upset if the customer contacted him and try to sell the car out from under the customer for a larger profit as soon as the vin# showed up on the update sheets. Sometimes the salespeople are not the scum.

Another trick is to tack on additional delivery charges when an ordered car arrives.

My suggestion is to contract to the agreed amount as soon as a vin # is available. Even if you lease, and cross into the next quarter when values change slightly ( contract will be updated for residuals and pricing changes ). Here in CA, you do not have to take the car until you drive off the lot.
