HELP! I just finished washing my car. While drying it I immediately panicked when I found brownish/orange spots on the paint at several locations of the car, including the area "inside" the car where the hatch sits. I first noticed it mainly on the entire rear of the car, then upon further inspection found that it occurred all over mostly near edges such as the edges of the hood, edges of the doors, etc. The only place on the car where it is throughout the paint and not only on edges is on the rear, including where the license plate is located. Could this be rust? And if so, is it possibly rust from the brake dust sticking to various places on my car? I have Lake Silver Metallic and the spots are very easy to see. I need to know if anyone else has experienced this and also what I could do to remove it.
Oh, one more tidbid. I also noticed many scratches on the little protruding "lip" thing at the bottom of the doors on the outside. Just a note to all you TTers to be cautious getting in and out so you don't scratch that area.

stuck on the paint, that was left behind when the water evaporated. What have to done to try and remove the spots?
If you haven't already try a foaming car wash that is clearcoat and wax safe(like Mequiar's "Clear Coat Car Wash(won't remove wax either) or Mequiars Professional Hi-Tech Wash 00(Foams away dirt and grime without removing wax and is also safe on clear coats) with a 100% cotton sponge or mit.

All cars are shipped with a coating on them to protect them. The documentation that came with my Zymol products calls this "cosmoline." Since the orangey stuff is still especially on the edges of parts, it seems the dealer did not prep the car thoroughly.
I have seen this issue pointed out here a while back, and this is what I remember of it. I am sure Jenner's advice on cleaning products is very good, also try Zymol HD-Cleanse.
In time, others will respond that had this happen to them I am sure.

It is great on paint overspray and miscellaneous paint clean ups.

I'd try Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub paint cleaner. It contains mild abrasives and cleaners that should take it off without much effort, and won't damage your clearcoat.

I live in Detroit and I get what is called "rail-dust" from the heavy industry in Detroit. I have the same color. I use Meguiars for all my car cleaning needs, QuickDetail (for a quick detail) works real good if you are meticulious like me.
Good Luck
