Does Audi usually introduce special edition vehicles the year prior to a new restyling?
This happens with the Japanese car companies and I'm wondering if this practice applies to German vehicles.

Hi there,
VW does Special Editions. Audi does not. It drags down the perception of the marque.
The entire mission statement that Audi offers, is based on individual choices ( more than 600 combinations ). Your car is YOUR car. Not some marketing ploy where the advertising reigns.
Audi people are individualists. They could never agree what options a "special edition" should have.
After talking to my regional rep and the west coast Audi trainer ( trains ABS - Audi Brand Specialists ), they both say "no".

You might consider the "S" cars special, and usually they are in limited numbers compared to the rest of the line.
Other than that, the only one I can recall is the Commemerative Edition Audi's in 1986. They produced a Coupe GT that was all white including wheels, Red leather, and electronic dash. I think the 4KQ was the same, but not sure about the dash. the 5K had the 16 spoke wheels and leather/suede sport seats.

I had an '86 Coupe GT (not the Comm. Ed.) and as I've stated here many times, it was my favorite Audi (that I've owned). Thanks again, Geza
