A friend with a Passat did but I didn't. His is actually mounted inside the plastic cover that covers the closing mechanism. A4 's just have a little cover.

Open the driver's door, actually, first read the owner's manual, then...

Open the driver's door. Remove the cover to the fusebox. The crank is in there.

If you are wondering why I said to open the driver's door, then go back to step #1 and read the owner's manual about where the fusebox is located.
