I've been reading a bit in this forum about performance enhancements. Does anyone have baseline articles and facts so I can educate myself on chips, exhaust, turbo, etc? I feel like I'm coming into the middle of a movie.

and most people around here have fairly strong opinions on the matter. Chip-tuning preferences seem to run in cycles ... APR is the hot chip of the moment, Wetterauer was the for the past two years, and several other players like AutoThority have drawn good reviews from people on this board. MTM, Neuspeed and TAP have their loyalists as well.

Read the archives (search chips & salsa, get some chips & salsa to snack on while you spend some serious time weeding through all of the info!)

Most people seem very pleased to be able to buy 35-50 horsepower for $200-600 bucks. I have only experienced one chip, my Wetterauer 1.0 bar, but I can tell you I'm thrilled with the performance of my car now and have not experienced any potential chipping problems, like pinging or check engine lights. (That does happen, you'll read all about it).

Best of luck to you.

under the heading - 'info request about chips'

There are some suggestions there.

For chipping, the archives have more info than you can shake a turbo at, if they're back up that is. Also, check out the thread mentioned below. In addition, get a subscription to or keep an eye on European Car Magazine. It's dedicated to modifying, you guessed it...European Cars. And post questions on the performance forum as they come up.
