Hi all,

as most of you have already heard, Audi is recalling all TTs due to
"customer wishes" as they call it. Although you can guess that it is
also due to the fact that more that a few drivers have reported
serious accidents due to the TTs instability at low and high speeds.

Fact is: the TT (and the TTR) will be modified from week 50 with:
- different shock absorbers front and rear
- different front axle rubber bushings
- ESP
- rear fixed spoiler

No rectractable spoiler, not now, not in planning. Definitely a NO from Audi on that topic.
The modifications are mandatory, no chance of leaving out the spoiler.

Owners will be asked to have the chassis modified and have the spoiler mounted.
No ESP modifications on 98/99 TTs.

Just a short wrapup from the meeting to keep you informed.

Greetings,
Marc

"due to the fact that more than a few drivers have reported serious accidents due to the TT's instability at low and high speeds".

Are you talking about German drivers?

Are the number of these incidents statistically significant?

What is the nature of the low speed incidents? (What is low speed?)

What is the nature of the high speed incidents? (What is high speed?)

Has driver error been eliminated as a cause/factor from all of these incidents?

Just the facts, please. Thank you.

Can you clarify in this issue. Will all delivered 00 TTQ's need to go to the dealership and get these updates?

< Are you talking about German drivers?
YES, only. Also we heard reports from dutch+swiss drivers.

< Are the number of these incidents statistically significant?
probably not. but they are larger than they should be, and the circumstances
we're all very alike.

< What is the nature of the low speed incidents? (What is low speed?)
Low speed=up tp 130km/h
Braking in turns, tail wipes out very suddenly if driver is inexperienced or
is unaware of this behavoiur.

< What is the nature of the high speed incidents? (What is high speed?)
High speed= starting at 180km/h
Due to lack of downforce at high Autobahn-speeds (nothing for the US-drivers, I know),
the TT loses it's stability very fast when braking in a turn, or when
braking while moving the steeringwheel, i.e. when trying to avoid a
car pulling out into the left lane.

< Has driver error been eliminated as a cause/factor from all of these incidents?
That can almost never be eliminated entirely, but it is pretty clear from
Audi's response that they know that there is something to it.......

Marc,

Is the Week 50 ESP build you mention for German models only or worldwide? I am purchasing a Quattro (in the US), and am willing to delay a week or 2 more to make sure I get the ESP system.

Thanks!
