Hello,

I just heard about this forum and have found some excellent information, thanks everyone. My question is this. Are TT's particularily susceptible to door dings from cars parked alongside them? I have a deposit down, and am waiting for a TT with Quattro, but a friend of mine who has a front wheel drive model has experienced two bad and expensive dents in the sides from parking lots and his car is only three months old. I love the TT too much to give up the idea of getting one so how do I try to avoid the problem?
Can any of you recommend good methods to use while parking to protect the car? Thanks.

Joy

I have no door dings on my car which I picked up in May for that matter I have no dings om my other car(75,000 miles). I guess your concern stems from a lack of side molding on the TT. I think common sense is the answer here, be careful where you park your car. Mothers with small children in grocery store parking lots with a good wind blowing are a bad combination. You really can't blame them if things get out of control and either a cart or door end up impacting your TT. Really fat people are also a danger. Since you can't control who parks next to you, pick a safe parking spot. End spaces improve your chances by 50%. A distant space away from the crowd is worth the walk (don' park funky ala across two spaces, or you my get key'd). If you parallel park, you won't have to worry about door dings but WATCH THE WHEELS, they damage easily and are exspensive to repare. When the weather gets bad the chances of a door dings skyrocket so drive your other car if you have one. Also airport lots should be avoided, small spaces and business people in a hurry are not good; I have seen many brief cases and bags being opened on the trunk or hood of someone else's car. Think, that's what I say; no I'm not related to the nerd on TV who runs around washing other peoples cars. JIM

When parking your TT next to other cars it is the morons in car next to the TT who say "Hmm, ain't that an ugly new VW, WHAM! woops! Too bad it was parked too close to my '72 AMC Pacer"

Advice, find empty part of lot or garage to park in or don't park next to pick-ups and old cars.

i agree with john p. plus you get some good exercise walking from the furthermost corner of the parking lot. i've been doing it for years, much to the dismay of my wife, who wants me to tool around the parking lot endlessly in search of a spot right in front.

good luck.

Car cover might protect you.
I use to put the cover even I leave my TT for a 10 minutes.
