A recent post asked about buying the 1.8T vs the 2.8. I have a similar question, but it has to do with maintenance issues. I'm inclined towards the 1.8, but wondered whether turbo engines still have the maintenance and daily use issues that they used to (e.g., letting the engine cool down before shutting it off). Are more frequent oil changes necessary? If buying used, what should you look out for (particularly with the turbo)? Also, does anyone know of a decent Los Angeles-area dealer? Thanks in advance!

you still should let it cool down a bit before turning it off, and yes oil changes are recomended more frequently. . .my personal opinion is that the 1.8T is much better than the 2.8, especially if you chip it.

1. Yes, you still are recommended to cool the turbo before turning the car off. But I bet this process isn't as important as it used to be.

2. Audi recommends 5,000 mile intervals for the 1.8T and 7,500 for the 2.8. All covered for 3 years/50,000 miles.

3. A used 1.8T might have a higher chance of the car being driven harder since it seems like more spirited driving occurs in the 1.8T. (Just an assumption or stereotype obviously).

In short:
1.8T is more performance upgradeable and sporty.
2.8 is more luxurious and smooth.

There are plenty of "1.8T vs 2.8" descriptions in the arcives.

Just my thoughts.

I had a good experience at audi of downtown LA, they were much more will to bargain than the other places I called to or went. Rusnak in Pasadena would not negotiate with the price. I called a few other places but no one would talk prices over the phone except for the downtown dealership.
